What is Mindfulness and How Does it Relate to Meditation?

Mindfulness is a mental state characterized by awareness and attention to the present moment, without judgment. It involves consciously directing your focus to the sensations, thoughts, and feelings you're experiencing in each present moment, rather than dwelling on the past or worrying about the future.

Meditation, on the other hand, is a practice that encompasses a wide range of techniques aimed at cultivating mindfulness, relaxation, and concentration. Mindfulness meditation is a specific form of meditation that focuses on developing mindfulness through techniques such as breath awareness, body scan, and mindful movement.

So, while mindfulness is a mental state or quality of attention, meditation is the practice or tool used to cultivate that state of mindfulness. Mindfulness can be cultivated not only through formal meditation practices but also through everyday activities like eating, walking, or even washing dishes, by bringing full attention to the experience at hand.

In conclusion, mindfulness and meditation is a lot more accessible than we may realize, or what we’re taught growing up. May your practice and awareness strengthen, and your mindfulness expand into a normal everyday practice.

We’d love to hear back from you and the ways you practice mindfulness through formal or informal meditation practices.
